The NYS AAP is a Coalition of AAP NY Chapters 1, 2, and 3.  Together, we have the power to make a difference!

As a member of AAP NY Chapter 2, you will be a voice united with over 4,100 pediatricians in the NYS AAP, working to achieve optimal physical, mental and social well-being for infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and to improve the practice of pediatrics in New York State.

What have AAP NY Chapter 2 and the NYS AAP done lately?

Free Educational Programs

  • March and April 2015: Vaccine Hesitancy Webinar Series (NYS AAP)
  • 2, 2015: ICD-10 educational dinner program (NY Chapter 2)
  • December 3, 2014: “Shot @ Life,” a dinner program for medical students, residents and fellowship trainees featuring an international campaign to promote immunization worldwide (NY Chapter 2)
  • November 12, 2014: “Just in Time: Building Brighter Futures for Children Dealing with Crisis,” a conference enabling pediatricians and other child care professionals to explore the current best practices for serving children dealing with crisis or disasters (NYS AAP co-hosted)
  • November 6, 2014: “Preventing Blindness from Neonatal Retinal Disease: Digital Imaging, Treatment and Beyond,” an educational dinner program (NY Chapter 2 Committee on Fetus and Newborn)
  • October 17, 2014: “2nd Annual Anti-Bullying Campaign” (NY Chapter 2 Committee on Bullying Prevention co-hosted)

Committee Projects

  • The Pediatric Council continues to meet with insurance companies in an effort to improve pediatric practice
  • The Nutrition Committee created two new brochures on “Milk Confusion” and “Dietary Advice for Food Allergies”
  • The Committee on Youth and Adolescence created a Concussion Survey
  • The Joint NY Chapter 2 & 3 Committee on Environmental Health created two “News You Can Use” e-newsletters

Advocacy Successes

  • Advocacy efforts at the Chapter and District level helped to pass:
    • Actively fought against philosophical vaccination exemptions for school entry.
    • Expanded pediatrician’s scope of practice to include screening for post-partum depression.
    • Working to allow pediatricians to negotiate in groups to normalize the balance of power in negotiations with insurance companies.
    • Working to expand immunization efforts against Human Papilloma Viruses and Meningitis.
    • Advancing Gun-Violence Prevention by advancing safe gun storage laws.
